About Us
Restore A Dream Africa started as Empower Hope Africa in 2017 to support girls from poor and marginalized communities in Kenya. Their work began in the Mt. Elgon region, ravaged by land clashes back in 2006/2008, leaving the community in pain, and poverty. The SLDF killed many men, forced boys to join the militia and women were maimed and raped and many left pregnant. Many widows and children were left traumatized and without a source of livelihood. People fled to nearby towns and villages and never got to bury their husbands. These women and families have never found closure from the effects of the clashes.
Whenever there is any kind of conflict and violence the people who suffer the most are the women and children. Mt, Elgon was not an exception. With hundreds of young widows left behind with large families without a stable source of income poverty was biting and women and girls suffered. Many girls were dropping out of school because of poverty early pregnancies, and early marriages. A community that didn’t see the value of education for a girl child gave their daughters for marriage at an early age so the boys could go to school. With such a trend there was no hope for the girl child ever achieving their dreams. Something had to be done to save the girls. Empower Hope came to empower this young girl and several young-mothers who had dropped out of school without help or hope for anything beyond their little village.
In conflicts, women and children are disproportionately affected and Mt. Elgon was no exception. Young widows with large families and no stable income faced biting poverty. Many girls dropped out of school due to poverty, early pregnancies, and marriages. The community, not valuing girls’ education, married off daughters early so boys could attend school. This trend left girls with little hope of achieving their dreams. Empower Hope aimed to empower these girls and young mothers who had dropped out of school.
Despite the region’s fertility and abundant rain, it was left poor and begging. But there is hope. Restore A Dream (RADA) inspires and catalyzes the restoration of dreams, hope, and dignity.
Our Goals
Innovative Programs: Develop and implement relevant, innovative programs that address the specific needs of the orphans and vulnerable and for the empowerment of the entire community.
Empowerment Opportunities: Provide avenues for individual growth and empowerment, including educational scholarships for orphaned and vulnerable children.
Gender Equality: Advocate for gender equality and actively discourage harmful cultural practices such as early marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Sustainable Funding Model: Establish a sustainable economic funding strategy to support the growth and development of our programs.
Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with like-minded partners to promote and achieve the organization’s goals and objectives.
